The Curious Case of Benjamin Button: Initial Response

In the movie The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Benjamin Button was born old. He ages backwards. He was the size of a baby but he was wrinkly like an old man. He spends the first few years of his life in a rest home with all the old people. His mother died giving birth to him and his father dropped him at the steps of the rest home. As the years went on he got younger. He met Daisy when she was visiting her grandmother. Benjamin instantly fell in love with her. As he grows younger he lives his life like any other person would, just in the other direction. He goes to war, he works on a boat, he has a child with Daisy and then leaves her. Daisy married another man. When he gets to the age of about five, he develops a form of dementia. He forgets everything. He then passes away.

Benjamin was always portrayed as a hopeful character in the film. He was very adventurous and always took every opportunity that came his way. He always knew he was different but never let that stop. him from doing things that everyone else experiences in a normal life.

Daisy is portrayed as an ambitious and strong-willed character. She becomes an amazing dancer and always love Benjamin even though he was different. She loves him for who he is and always believes in him. When her career was ended by an injury she doesn’t let that stop her and she opens up a dance studio to inspire other young dancers to get where she was. When Benjamin leaves she is heartbroken but still marries another man who cares for her and her daughter and she continues to live her life. When Benjamin came back, she still cares about him. She still took care of Benjamin even when he grew younger and forgot who she was. She loved him until the end.

Key messages in the text are that your should never let anything stop you from doing what you want to do. No matter how hard it is, you should keep going. Another key message is that you shouldn’t stop loving someone even if they are different from everyone else on the outside or the inside. If you love someone, it doesn’t matter if they are different. Another key message is that never let anything get in your way, like when Daisy has her injury, she doesn’t let that stop her from passing on her knowledge of dance on to other young dancers and inspiring them.

A similarity between the film The Great Gatsby and this film is that the love interests are called Daisy and they are both seen as and portrayed as perfect or a golden girl. Another similarity between the two films is the symbolism of time. Both movies show that no matter what, you can’t change time and you can’t repeat the past.
